Don’t give up

            Before you can ask, Yes, I’m not an immigrant. Yes, I don’t how is being one. But if I know something is that I don’t want to be in your shoes because I know that is hard. However, I don’t know your situation to understand your feelings, you can argue. And you are right, but I’m trying.  But you also have to put yourself in the other’s situation. You have to think how your actions can affect the other side of the coin.  I’m against prejudice, but I think that immigrants can’t automatically assume the role of victims in the situation. The only think that I’m try to explain is that I support you cause, if it is for a good purpose. For example, I support it when are focus in the concept of have a better life. I believe that all people have the opportunity to improve, because we are equal, we are just humans.

                In fact, I admire the stories of immigrants, because show me the real definition of determination.  At the present, I’m only a freshman with thousand of dreams, away from needs. So you can understand me if my words look crude or something like that. I didn’t mean to offend you. Only left me to tell you… Fight for your dreams because people that persist are people that reach! I support you!

They are between us…”

25 years ago… Mia Mok was a recent graduate student and that one will be his first year as a humanities professor. She was a black woman that came from a poor family of 13 brothers and only that completed a degree in her family. Mok was an excellent professional that worked with vocation, integration and dedication. The courses begin in august and Ludy was very excited, she has a lot of good expectations for the semester. She only has one section, section 404 – Tuesday and Thursdays.

In her sections was these quintuplets named the fives Bryan Banch. The Bryans were a weird guys and anybody knew anything about them. One day, one of the five asked Mok for a tutorial because he did not understood the class material. She accepted and planned to meet him at 10:30 am, her office hour. After that meeting this Banch fell in love with her. Mok and him began a secret romance, because she was married. After two weeks, she decide to ended the relationship because she was regretful of crossed the line. He suffers of an unrequited love because after that she never wanted to be with him.

The next Tuesday at the 10:30, a janitor found a boy dead, named Emanuel. He was drowned in the humanities women bathroom’s toilet and in his arm was written his name with the letter M circulate and a number 3. Next Thursday at the same period a girl named Natalia was founded minced in a humanities trash can. Her named was written in her arm with the letter I circulate and the number 3.  Next Tuesday at the same hour a boy named Andres was founded poisoned and stabbed in the humanities’ elevator with his name written in her arm. The letter A was circulated and also was written the number 3.

After a lot of weeks, in the same building was founded each Tuesday and Thursday a student dead. The letter in the arm repeated with the same patron. The letters form the name MIA. Also the number 3 and the hour of the murders was the same. After a huge investigation the police found a lipstick in a body. They founded that the lipstick belongs to Mia Mok. The police deduce that she was the murderous because of the lipstick’s ADN, the letters, the builing, the hour was her free time and the number 3 was the number of letter of his first and last name. The judge sentenced her to death. Although she was prisoner the murders continued. She dies. The next Tuesday was found the body of Bryan Banch with a tattoo in his back that says:

“People may think that nights are dangerous. Ja! Because nights hide the murders, homicides, suicides, violations, killings, shootings… massacres? Ja, ja! Because night wake up dead? Ja, ja, ja! Don’t have to be afraid to night… be afraid of sunlight! Don’t have to be afraid of dead… be afraid of alive! They are surrounding you, they see you in class, smile to you from his seat, talk to you, walk with you out of the classroom, move with you. They can feel your presence in the places, heard you at the distance, recognize your shadow, smell your perfume. They know you. They are between us…and I am they. You are some interference for “they”… for me…for our love. I will always love you Mia Mok and I know that our relationship was a true love. I kill for you and you die for me. Now we will be together and nobody were can’t forget our story”.

The police understood that the number 3 represent him. He was the third in born of the quintuplets. He met Mia in that building and in that hour they saw each other when they had a romance.  The letters only represent his obsession with her and the lipstick was a trap for the police

To stop the paranoia, the university implanted some security measures. They decided to eliminate all the classes in Tuesdays and Thursdays to 10:30 -11:30am, named this period the universal hour, in which everyone was participating in different activities except taking classes. Also this hour is for the Mia Mok’s memories; in mourning for the injustice of her death.

Current Issues images’ editor

Dear Editor:

This semester at the Mayaguez campus of the University of Puerto Rico, I’m taking the intermediate English course, in which Current Issues is the class’ text book. We had been studying the images as arguments in the visual rhetoric. Recently, when I was reading “The Boston Photograph” (Ephron,N.)  I saw the images besides the lecture, that in fact got me in shocked.  Is a truth that the photo shoot was incredible, but the photos are very impressive for all kind of lectors. In my personal case is not that the images are hard and cause me some intolerance, no! Is the sense of sequence and the graphically details exposed in each one. in the other hand, I sponsor that you don’t completed the images’ sequence with the final fall of the women, but if you will put it I will be in complete disagreement. The only think that I can suggest is that maybe create an appendix will be a better option. This appendix would include images like those. In the lecture you would advice that for the interest of lector the text include some images with violence, high content and others and are located in appendix X page. So, the lector had the complete responsibility of view the image and the impact that it can present.

A simple photograph

These two pictures grabbed my attention making difficult to pick one, so such as they are much related, I choose both. With these announcements the producers are trying to say that this beer is very important, because if you want to transform your moments into dreamers’ experiences, Corona Extra have to be right there to make you feel that. Corona reflect to all of drinkers that it transports you to a relax atmosphere.  Also in the beach’s picture they are placed the beer in the ocean, to appeal the refreshing sense of the beer. Personally I not drink any alcoholic drink, but those images make me feel the sensation of relaxation. A fact that I’m in completed disappears, because I think that drink a beer is not the way to have a fun night and to let go all the pressures and preoccupations of the day to be relax. In addition the publicity represents the fact of drink Corona at any time in any where. This publicity affects me when people do everything with the drinks in the hand. Also, I already had bad experiences with alcohol drinkers and as a consequence I refuted the appeal of the announcement. But let me clarify that my phobia of alcohol drinkers don’t means that these announcements where no effective to the consumers. Another important complement of a good publicity is, moreover than an eye-catching image, a strong message or slogans that make the readers think. But all humans had different points of view…the picture catch you?

The nutrition’s themes for me are the most interesting to read. Actually, I don’t like to read, although the only books that I completely read were about nutrition and exercises’ facts. I like too much to learn about it and always I had this idea of make a list of what I ate and how many calories, carbohydrates, fat, proteins, sugars I am really consumed. Subsequently, makes a comparison with the based percents values of calories that should I eat. But after one week writing each think that I devour, the idea of making my own nutrition’s facts list daily changed radically.

At begin, each day, I had these mental fight of in what day I’m going to start the journal. Friday not, because here we come the weekend and I want to eat without preoccupations. Monday maybe is a good day, but at the end I forgot completely to write the journal. Tuesday was the day of start. At the end of the Tuesday I was like shocking. “I ate all that! My God it’s too much! I am a “draga”! Definitely I have to do exercise to make a balance, because eat less is too difficult!”- was my first reaction. The days keep running and my mouth keeps eating too. I realized that is hard to stay in the standards of a “healthy eating”. I am in the Colegio and I ate the most healthy as I can. I drink 3 to 4 bottles of water daily. I ate the six portions of the day, a good breakfast, the 3 meals, the lunch and the dinner. Avoid chocolates, candies and junk food. Even so, this journal made me felt frustrated and motivated at the same time. Frustrated, because I was never visualized in numbers my foods consume and in the other hand motivated, because now I can had a control of it.

Find out that if you really want to reduce your consuming of some nutrition’s facts make a food journal can be a help. Because you would have a control of you’re consuming with this technique. Therefore, reading this list, you will make conscience of your alimentary order.

2.  The revolution of cibernetic aplications caused a high impact in the poblation. Causing that most of the teenagers are addicted to internet.

3. In tennis’ game, players are ranked by a numbers, but men are more consistant than women in the rank positions.

4. A pet  is a perfect gift to a child. The bestest choice is a dog, men’s best friend.

Who decides your name? Who asks you if you like it? Who tells you how you want to write it? Whatever, I am not going to change it. So, my name is Odette Veronica, but more than letters make words, letters are also the result of a story. Well this is a story of a mother that always wanted a girl, my grandmother.

In 1969 my grandma was a mother of two boys and also had one miscarriage. That year she received a surprise… she was pregnant again. The emotion of having the opportunity to have a girl motivated her to search for a girl’s name. She decided that her baby girl would be named Odette Veronica, a French name. But when the baby was born, it was another boy, her last child, and it was my father. My grandma decided to keep the name for her first granddaughter, and that was me!

In 1991 my mother was pregnant. That baby was also the first granddaughter, so my grandmother asked my mom if she could name her Odette Veronica as a gift for my grandma. My mom liked name and named me Odette Veronica. Until today I have to tell you that sometimes I hate my name because nobody knows how you spell it or pronounce it, but after all, I love it. My name means wealth and also Odette is a character in the ballet Swan Lake. Did you see the movie?  Odette was the good swan, Odile, the evil swan.

And now my big problem is that my mother likes the name very much and always requests that as a mission or gift before she dies, that my first daughter be named Odette and I don’t want to do this. This is a big trouble, but seriously, I have time to think about these things.
